Jocelyn Balan Lopez, MA

I’m a first-generation Guatemalan American — my parents immigrated while staying deeply connected to their culture. Growing up, I learned what it feels like to live between two worlds: to carry both the pride of rich heritage and the weight of expectations that don’t always fit who you are. Those experiences — the challenges and the blessings — are part of what brought me to this work.

I see the world through the eyes of someone who knows how it feels to navigate family expectations, cultural tension, and identity shifts. I also know what it feels like to carry strength that others overlook: resilience built across generations, joy woven into survival, and voice found through struggle.

Faith and spirituality is an important part of my life, a source of grounding and gratitude. I feel very blessed in my life especially with the start of this private practice. However, therapy is always about you and your needs. If spirituality or religion is meaningful to you, we can explore that together. If it’s not, that’s completely okay — it won’t be imposed or assumed.

  • Therapy with me is warm, collaborative, and culturally grounded. I work with Latinx adults, immigrants, and multicultural individuals who are navigating identity, belonging, family roles, and meaning. My clients may also be coping with trauma, mental health struggles, or family conflict, and I meet each person where they are, with compassion and understanding.

I believe therapy is more than solving problems. It’s about feeling your story — both the parts that ache and the parts that have sustained you — and learning to live with more agency, understanding, and presence. Here, your heritage isn’t something you tuck away; it’s part of your strength.

  • I founded Somos Bilingual Therapy with the belief that our stories are not defined only by struggle. Yes, we may carry inherited pain and learned to adapt in ways that protected us. But we also come from generations of deep strength, resilience, and joy. Therapy isn’t just about healing what hurts — it’s about honoring what sustains you and reclaiming your voice in a world that hasn’t always made space for it.

  • I am in the final stage of licensing (pre-licensed therapist, MA) in Pennsylvania, working under the supervision of a licensed clinician. I am trained in culturally informed, client-centered practices and bring experience working with clients across age ranges, family systems, and cultural backgrounds.

Let’s Connect

In our sessions, you’re invited to show up fully — in English, Spanish, Spanglish, or however your voice naturally comes out — and to explore what’s going on beneath the surface with curiosity and compassion.

Clients often tell me they appreciate my warmth, my cultural awareness, and my ability to hold both depth and ease in our work together. I work with you to build understanding, strengthen emotional grounding, and create tools that land in your real life — not just in the therapy room.
